Open Position: Editor of Developments

Applications are now being accepted for the editor of Developments, a professional development publication. This person in this position is selected through an application process and approved by the ACPA Governing Board.

The editor leads a team of 10, including Associate Editor(s) and Assistant Editors(s), reviewers, and copy editors. This individual has the responsibility for all administrative and publishing matters.

Accordingly, the editor will:

  • Provide leadership and direction for the publication
    • Select, train, and lead all members of the Developments team
    • Supervise Senior Editorial Board members and copy editors
    • Coordinate the publication process and administrative issues with the ACPA International Office
    • Participate in conference calls and the annual convention meeting with the Director of Research and Scholarship and the editors of JCSD, About Campus, the Books and Media Board, and Internal Publications
    • Coordinate the promotion of the publication at the annual convention and other ACPA professional development events
    • Maintains content of Developments Web site
  • Manage the Submission and Review Process
    • Respond to all publishing inquiries and submissions
    • Assign submissions to reviewers and copy editors
    • Coordinate the development of publication series with ACPA Standing Committees, Commissions, and other entity groups
    • Compile and make final content edits for all articles
    • Coordinate copy editing and the proofing process
    • Write “From the Editor” column
    • Manage the organization and editing tools utilized by the Developments team

Time commitment for this position is approximately 5-7 hours per week, and varies based what is needed during various stages of each issue’s publication cycle.

The selected applicant would begin their term on September 1, 2012 and serve a three-year term that would end on August 31, 2015.
