SAAIL – Students Activating Adaptive and International Leadership

May 21, 2012 – June 15, 2012
Central & South America

A Unique Partnership between ACPA & the Institute for Shipboard Education (Semester at Sea)

Semester at Sea

Are you interested in furthering your leadership development? Do you have a passion for making positive social change? Do you want to learn about leadership in an international context? If so, this is the program for you!

Join a dynamic group of undergraduate student leaders from across the world and take the adventure of your life aboard the MV Explorer, the home of Semester at Sea!

ACPA and Semester at Sea have joined forces to provide this unique opportunity for student leaders. This program is designed to give students hands-on experience of working and learning collaboratively on a voyage through Central America and the Caribbean. With a focus on adaptive leadership, you will learn to help address major issues affecting our world that are in line with the United Nations Millennium Goals. Throughout the voyage, you will have the opportunity to meet and connect with others interested in positive social change, learn from an engaging faculty member experienced in college student leadership development, and participate in service-learning opportunities and site visits.

This is an academic study abroad experience. All students must register for one section of Latin America: The Quest for Development in the New Millennium (1 credit) and the leadership cohort course EDLF 5500: Adaptive Leadership for Social change – An International Context (3 credits).

If you are interested in expanding your skills and continuing to grow as a leader, we strongly encourage you to participate. This course promises to be life-changing, and you will be able to take what you learn back to your campus and make a difference within your home community. Space is limited, so make sure that you sign up to SAAIL today!

You'll Do More, Learn More, and Go Farther on Semester at Sea

Established in 1963, Semester at Sea is the only study abroad program of its kind in the world. Using a ship as a traveling campus, undergraduates, lifelong learners, faculty, and lecturers live and learn together while circumnavigating the globe each fall and spring semester and exploring a world region each May and summer term. Credit earned is fully transferable by the University of Virginia. The voyage that you are applying for is called the “Short Term Voyage”. It is shorter than the traditional voyages and will be visiting 7 international destinations in 26 days.
