Overview of the “On the Road” Workshop
“On the Road with ACPA” is a one-day drive in workshop designed to motivate you in your current position and provide an enriching professional development experience. Our goal is to provide a local, low cost experience for all student affairs professionals and graduate students – regardless of functional area.
Target Audience
The “On the Road” Drive in Workshop is open to all college student educators at all levels --student affairs professionals, faculty, administrators, undergraduate and graduate students.
Programs at the Workshop
Central to the substance and structure of our professional development initiatives are the ACPA Professional Competencies. As such, the competencies were used in the program proposal evaluation and selection processes.
Professional Competencies

Advising and Helping: Application of theories and skills related to providing support, direction, feedback, critique, and guidance to individuals and groups.

Assessment, Evaluation, and Research: The design and implementation of quantitative and qualitative techniques and tools focused on student learning and satisfaction, organizational issues and development, professional development and training, student development, and other emergent issues.

Ethics: The ability to assess daily activities from an ethical perspective as well as understanding and applying ethical standards to one's work.

Legal Foundations: The ability to assess daily activities from a legal perspective as well understanding and applying knowledge of legal issues to one's work environment and relationships.

Leadership and Management/Administration: Organizational competencies such as influencing, motivating, and enabling others to contribute toward the effectiveness and success of the organizations of which they are members; and the deployment and manipulation of resources to advance institutional or organizational mission, goals, and initiatives.

Pluralism and Inclusion: An understanding and valuing of diverse groups and views, civic engagement and social responsibility, as well as recognizing the importance of language and culture in pursuit of creating and maintaining more pluralistic and multicultural campuses.

Student Learning and Development: Knowledge and understanding of concepts and principles of student development and student learning theories, and ability to apply theory to improve student affairs practice.

Teaching: Knowledge and understanding of concepts and principles of teaching, learning, and training theory and how to apply these theories to improve student affairs practice and education.

The curriculum will be a mix of programs offered at the 2009 Annual Convention in metro DC and the 2010 Annual Convention in Boston, MA as well as new programs submitted and accepted through an open call.

Featured Speakers

Eddie Moore, Jr. Ph.D. currently serves as Director of Diversity at The Bush School (www.bush.edu) in Seattle, WA. He is responsible for overseeing the overall programming/budgeting, and student group activities associated with the office. He works with other offices building and implementing strategies related to recruitment, retention and community outreach. Dr. Moore's training sessions & keynote speeches have been described as high energy, motivating, challenging and enlightening by participants of all ages, time and time again. Dr. Moore is most know as the founder of the White Privilege Conference [http://www.uccs.edu/~wpc] which just celebrated its 11th year.

Vernon A. Wall has accumulated over 25 years of professional Student Affairs experience at Iowa State University, the University of Georgia, UNC-Charlotte, and UNC-Chapel Hill and has experience in Greek life, new student orientation, student activities, leadership development, global education, and university housing. Wall currently lives in Washington DC where he serves as the Director of Educational Programs and Publications for the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), College Student Educators International.
He received his B.A. in Political Science from North Carolina State University and his M.S. degree in College Student Personnel Administration from Indiana University . Wall has received several awards for his contributions to the quality of student life, is a nationally known speaker in the areas of social justice and leadership styles, and is one of the founders and facilitators of the Social Justice Training Institute.

A continental breakfast, lunch, an afternoon break and a closing reception is included in your registration fee.

The attire for the conference is business casual.
Oregon State University (OSU)
Oregon State University OSU's roots go back to 1858 when it was established as a private academy in Corvallis. College-level courses were added in 1865 and the first degrees were awarded in 1870. A land grant university, OSU was designated as Oregon's state-assisted agricultural college in 1868. Sea grant, space grant and sun grant designations came later, making OSU one of only two universities in the nation to hold all four titles. For more than 100 years, OSU has had a three-fold mission of teaching, research, and service to the people of Oregon and the world.
Payment and Cancellation Policy
Registrations can be paid by check, VISA, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express. All fees must be prepaid. Purchase orders are not accepted. Refunds will be given for cancellations, received in writing at ACPA by May 10, 2010 less a $50 processing fee. After May 10th, there are no refunds. ACPA reserves the right to charge a service fee of $50 for returned checks. A processing fee of $20 per registration will be charged for credit cards declined or to change payment methods after the initial payment is processed. Registrations are non-transferable. The conference may be canceled or postponed due to insufficient enrollment or other unforeseen circumstances. In this case, the fees will be fully refunded; however, ACPA will not be responsible for other additional costs, charges or expenses, including cancellation/change charges accessed by airlines and/or travel agencies.
