PROGRAM STATEMENT

The student affairs counseling degree is designed to prepare student affairs professionals for employment within institutions of higher education.   This program emphasizes a counseling foundation and global learning dimensions (diversity, sustainability, and global engagement).   The goal of the program is to prepare college student affairs professionals in the following areas through the following CAS categories in coursework, fieldwork, practica and internships: (a) foundations; (b) professional studies; and (c) supervised practice. The program has undergone a CAS self-study and an external CAS review. We encourage a supportive peer community of approximately 20 students (10 per year). The program prepares students for careers in higher education by combining the foundational principles of counseling and college student development with college impact research. We encourage graduates to achieve global and multicultural competence, and to lead in 21st century higher education.
