The graduate program in college student affairs at Azusa Pacific University prepares individuals to become student affairs educators whose special interest is in college students and the environments that affect their development as persons and as scholar-students. College student affairs stands as a multli-disciplinary field, fusing information, theories, and approaches gained from education, human resources, counseling, psychology, sociology, business administration, theology, and organizational development. Its basic processes involve the assessment of student and institutional needs, the development of reasoned goals to address identified needs, and the implementation of program, policies, and services to accomplish such goals. The uniqueness of the College Counseling and Student Development Program at Azusa Pacific University is that it seeks to accomplish this mission within the context of a Christian worldview.
In addition, our program is unique in that it is based on the development of competence in 12 areas such as, visionary leadership, quality programing, legal and ethical issues, budgeting and fiscal management, counseling and advising, and multicultural awareness, knowledge, and skills. Our culminating project is a capstone website where students provide evidence of competence in 12 areas of student affairs practice.
