Greetings and welcome to the Commission for Administrative Leadership's (CAL) web area.   I hope that you will find information here that either begins or continues your connection to the commission and ACPA.   I would also like to share a bit about our commission and our purpose in the association.

Our history is a rich one and we are proud of the fact that we have served as one of the homes in the association for many past ACPA Presidents, State Division Presidents, and other leaders in the student affairs profession.   Our commission maintains the focus of a generalist group, utilizing the broad framework of leadership to support our colleagues and profession in examining contemporary issues across functional areas.

Some of the ways in which CAL contributes to this examination of issues is through the development of scholarship and research, hosting of round table discussions, and collaborating with other groups within in the association.   We believe that the most effective way to engage in a cross disciplinary dialogue is through inviting colleagues from across the professional and seniority spectrum to the table.   This is reflected in the diversity of the commission's membership and directorate.

Examples of CAL in action include the development of the Mid-Level Manager's Institute, co-hosting (along with the Commission on Assessment) pre-convention programming on the role of student affairs in the accreditation process, annual discussion of "burning issues" that impact our profession, and the continued support of research on topics related to leadership and management in the profession.

We also focus on supporting the leadership development of our membership by providing opportunities to serve on subcommittees, developing formal and informal mentorship opportunities, and providing opportunities to connect to the association beyond our specific commission.

Whether you are a new professional or a seasoned professional or faculty member, CAL has a place for you.  We are proud of our ability to add our passion for examining leadership issues to the rich curriculum of ACPA.

We look forward to meeting and working with you.
