Phyllis L. Mable (1934-2012)
"The Whole Student – Head, Heart, Mind, Spirit"
Throughout her active involvement with ACPA and tireless contributions to higher education that spanned over 50 years, Phyllis Mable was an exemplary leader, educator, colleague and friend. As former ACPA president (1979-80) and one of the founders of the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS), she dedicated her life long work to student development, created pathways for success for countless educators, and advocated for standards in learning outcomes. Upon her retirement as the Vice President of Student Affairs at Longwood University (Virginia) in 2001, she refocused her energy on learning and development outcomes in the standards as the Executive Director of CAS. Phyllis deeply cherished her personal relationships with her colleagues and friends, many whom were former students. She always showed her appreciation through personalized, thoughtful handwritten notes to all who shared a meal with her. Phyllis’ legacy will live through and among her friends, colleagues and students indefinitely. Read more about Phyllis Mable.
