Phyllis Mable, 1934-2012
"The Whole Student – Head, Heart, Mind, Spirit"
Throughout her active involvement with ACPA and tireless contributions to higher education that spanned over 50 years, Phyllis Mable was an exemplary leader, educator, colleague and friend. As former ACPA president (1979-80) and one of the founders of the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS), she dedicated her life long work to student development, created pathways for success for countless educators, and advocated for standards in learning outcomes. Upon her retirement as the Vice President of Student Affairs at Longwood University (Virginia) in 2001, she refocused her energy on learning and development outcomes in the standards as the Executive Director of CAS. ACPA President Appoints International Member Advisory Board
ACPA, in its commitment to the advancement of the student affairs profession, recognizes the global dimensions of its work and the long-term contributions of student affairs/student services practitioners and scholars throughout the world. For over a year, ACPA has been working to develop a Globalization Strategic Plan for the Association. Throughout its development, ACPA has vetted the Plan through a number of venues. Read more.
ACPA Announces Institutional Leadership Councils Program
ACPA is pleased to announce an exciting new program for senior-level professionals! Institutional Leadership Councils will be inaugurated at the ACPA Annual Convention in Louisville, Kentucky in March, 2012. These councils will provide a forum for Vice Presidents of Student Affairs, Deans of Students and other ranking campus administrators to gather and discuss critical issues that are facing senior administrators on campuses similar to their own. Statement on the ACPA Student Affairs Credential Program
ACPA’s announcement in January, that it created an implementation team to outline policies and practice for credentialing individuals in student affairs has launched a lively and thoughtful exchange of responses and suggestions. Read more.
ACPA Appoints Credentialing Implementation Team
Based on the recommendation by the Presidential Ad Hoc Committee on Professional Certification (2011) appointed by Past President Heidi Levine, the ACPA Governing Board unanimously approved the creation of a professional credentialing program, to consist of a Student Affairs Register and Specialized Skill Certification. In the July/August 2011 issue of the Journal of Higher Education, ACPA's premier publication, THE JOURNAL OF COLLEGE STUDENT DEVELOPMENT (JCSD) is ranked fourth among 50 Tier One journals in higher education. Read more.
